These days it seems that wave after wave of comics are receiving the star treatment and now that they’re hitting the big screen, it’s more important than ever for comics artists to step in the digital age and streamline their drawing process! Enter The DC Comics Guide to Digitally Drawing Comics, which allows artists to abandon pencil, pen, and paper for effortless sketching, resizing, and more! Freddie Williams is one of the industry’s leading digital artists, and in this book, he shows how to give up pencil, pen, and paper and start drawing dynamic, exciting comics art entirely with computer tools. Author Freddie E. Williams II is one of DC Comics’ hottest artists and a leader in digital penciling and inking—and here, in clear, step-by-step directions, he guides readers through every part of the digital process, from turning on the computer to finishing a digital file of fully inked comic art, ready for print. Creating a template, sketching on the computer, penciling, and inking digitally are all covered in depth, along with bold, time-saving shortcuts created by Williams, tested by years of trial and error. Williams, one of DC Comics’ hottest artists, has been drawing digitally since 2000. He has worked on the record breaking Countdown, Robin, and The Flash.

The line folded after about a year of publication, but now Martin's grandson, Jason, is reviving the line, which will roll out slowly during 2011 and be published by Ardden Entertainment. The first 3 titles will be Grim Ghost, Phoenix, and Iron Jaw written by Steve Niles. Listen in to learn all about Atlas Comics and their plans for the future.

The Glyph Comics Awards recognize the best in comics made by, for, and about people of color from the preceding calendar year. While it is not exclusive to black creators, it does strive to honor those who have made the greatest contributions to the comics medium in terms of both critical and commercial impact. By doing so, the goal is to encourage more diverse and high quality work across the board and to inspire new creators to add their voices to the field. The awards are named for the blog Glyphs: The Language of the Black Comics Community at Pop Culture Shock (http://glyphs.popcultureshock.com), started in 2005 by comics journalist Rich Watson as a means to provide news and commentary of comics with black themes, as well as tangential topics in the fields of black science-fiction/fantasy and animation. This is its 7th year and my second bringing you the award show. The award show took place on Friday May 20th At The African American Museum in Philadelphiahttp://ecbacc.com/wordpress/category/glyph-comic-awards/Plus there is a tribute and award for the late Dwayne McDuffie If you want to get on the mail list, click here
